Magnitude

For vector $\mathbf{v}=\overrightarrow{PQ}$, the magnitude (or length or norm) of $\mathbf{v}$, written $\mid \mid \mathbf{v}\mid \mid$, is the distance between $P$ and $Q$. Thus for $\mathbf{v}=\left(\begin{array}{c}{v}_1\\ v_2\end{array}\right)$ we have

$$||\mathbf{v}||=\sqrt{v_1^2+v_2^2}.$$
